Finding Stillness: An Introduction to Restorative Yoga

Slow down, breathe deeply, and discover a practice that’s all about rest.

What is Restorative Yoga?

Life doesn’t give us many chances to pause. That’s why I love restorative yoga — it’s a practice designed for deep rest. Unlike active styles that build strength or flow, restorative yoga works more like a reset button for your nervous system.

In class, we use props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks to fully support your body. Each pose is held for several minutes, giving your muscles permission to soften and your mind the chance to slow down. There’s no need to push or achieve — the practice is about comfort, quiet, and allowing your body to do the healing work naturally.

A chance to slow down each month

I teach a restorative yoga class one Sunday each month at Elevate Yoga in Sheboygan. It’s a chance to carve out time just for yourself — no distractions, no to-do lists, just rest.

To see the upcoming schedule, check the Elevate Yoga Momence app. From the teachers dropdown, choose Mark Meise, and you’ll find my classes there.

Why try Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga can be especially helpful if you’re:

  • Feeling stressed or anxious and need a gentle way to unwind.

  • Struggling with sleep and want a natural tool to quiet your mind.

  • Recovering from physical strain and looking for a supportive, low-impact option.

  • Brand-new to yoga and curious about a style that’s welcoming and simple.

Many people here in Sheboygan and Kohler tell me restorative yoga becomes their go-to way to recharge once they try it. It’s less about doing more — and more about learning how to let go.

What to expect in a Restorative Yoga class

When you step into a restorative class at Elevate Yoga in Sheboygan, the pace immediately slows. We take time to set up each pose with props so you feel fully supported, and then we settle into stillness. I’ll offer gentle cues to help you connect with your breath and notice how your body feels.

Most people leave class feeling lighter, calmer, and more grounded. One student described it as “the best nap I never took” — except you’re awake, aware, and fully present.

Try a class or book a private session in Sheboygan

Restorative yoga gives us permission to simply be. I’d love for you to join me for a Sunday session at Elevate Yoga or explore a private class — either way, you’ll leave feeling renewed.

If you ever feel like you want a little more movement but still at a relaxed pace, my Gentle Yoga classes are a great next step. And if you’re craving something more energetic and strength-building, Power Yoga might be the challenge you’re looking for.

Give yourself the gift of rest.
